The People

Compass Research brings together a team of professionals with extensive experience in research, marketing and developing markets gained conducting projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

Compass Research is managed by two Australian Directors - Jason Copland and Lyndal Pearce - who set up Compass Research in Myanmar in 1997. Both have worked in research and related fields in Australia before moving to Vietnam in 1995 where they continued to work in research, managing projects in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar.

They work with a team of 21 full-time Myanmar staff - Research Managers, Research Executives, Moderators, Researchers, Field Managers, Data Processing Managers and Data Processing Assistants and more than 200 project field staff who have experience working on a variety of research projects as Field Supervisors, Interviewers and Quality Controllers.

The majority of our full-time staff have tertiary degrees and previous work experience in a variety of fields and sectors. Many are continuing their educations.

Our field staff also come from a variety of ethnic, social and professional backgrounds.
What all our staff have in common is they are good communicators who have a genuine and keen interest in people's behaviours, attitudes and the frameworks and environments that influence them.
Compass's staff recruitment and training program has been built around the need for training of researchers in Myanmar. We have a team at Compass who are constantly looking for bright people with good communication skills to enter our training program. The introductory course of training is run regularly for new applicants who are observed and tested before being recruited. Compass selects interviewers who are well educated, personable and have the maturity and enthusiasm to interview people from all walks of life.

Compass also employs expatriate consultants for projects when specialist skills are required or workload demands it. As with local staff, Compass always has an open door for expatriate staff with an interest in research and Myanmar and keeps a database of potential consulting staff. The tertiary institutions Compass develops partnerships with also provides a skills and development resource.
